***Remembering Happiness - Songs of Joy Amidst Everything Else***
Saturday, June 17, 2:30 pm Cadboro Bay United Church

A musical event for all ages with Louise Rose. Where you can join in, share the harmony and go away with a song in your heart. The closing celebration for Victoria Good News Choir 2016-17 season.

YOU, your family and friends are welcome to relax, sing along, and share the happiness. Revive your spirit and take harmony home. Easy access via bus #11, open parking in church lot, and conversations over snacks and beverages at the end of the concert. We would love to share the afternoon with you.

A brief history…In 1997 Cordova Bay United Church opened its doors in welcome to The Victoria Good News Choir (one of Victoria’s first non-audition community choirs) and served as the choir’s ‘home’ ever since. It’s the only home the choir had known. Tuesday evening choir rehearsals, potlucks of all kinds, fundraisers, talent shows, silent auctions and concerts were held within the walls of the late Pamela Charlesworth’s architectural genius during the 18 years.
And, as with many who reach the age of 18, the time comes to leave home.
In 1963 Sam Cooke wrote and recorded a song entitled “A Change Is Gonna Come” in which there is a line - ‘it’s been a long time comin’, but I know a change is gonna come’.
The Victoria Good News Choir is now poised to MOVE to a NEW REHEARSAL DAY, A NEW FORMAT, NEW TIME and NEW PLACE starting Saturday, 16 January 2016
Slowly over a period of about six years and more pointedly in the last two years, the message has been being proclaimed … first quietly and now more loudly and clearly that a change WAS happening, NEEDED to happen and NOW … MUST happen.
The change needed to acknowledge the new reality of the choir’s population, age group(s) and demographics while also rejoicing in the direction(s) that allowed a focused continuation of the choir’s mission… participation of youth, families and the elderly… ‘all ages together in song’.
CHANGE. No one really likes change (even when it is of their own making). Having to readjust can be annoying and inconvenient. For some it may mean concluding that attempting to readjust is more trouble than it’s worth and the choice is to move in another direction.
While for some others, it may be just what the doctor ordered.
CADBORO BAY UNITED CHURCH extended a welcome to The Victoria Good News Choir to make its Pamela Charlesworth designed building its new home.
10AM – 12 NOON; NEW DAY– SATURDAY- starting SATURDAY, 14th January at CADBORO BAY UNITED CHURCH, 2625 Arbutus Road (on Bus Route #11).
Monthly Monday Outreach will REMAIN part of the choir’s mandate.

Welcome to the Victoria Good News Choir space.
I've often been asked if The Victoria Good News Choir is a 'gospel' choir. I respond No!
We are a NON-AUDITION community choir for All Ages that rehearses from 10am - noon on two or three Saturdays each month at Cadboro Bay United Church, 2625 Arbutus Road. We sing music from the 16th century to funk.
I started this choir because I wanted to provide a place where everyone would be welcome to sing... for three months. We've now been singing for thirteen years.
This choir is now my life's work. There is no retirement in sight.
I thought I wanted to have a choir in order to make music with and for people who expressed an interest in singing and especially those who'd been discouraged. What I know today is that those who want to sing want to sing for reasons that may have little to do with singing.
My job is to be prepared to serve you with all my heart.
This choir, like every relationship, is changing. Change is going to happen to each of us no matter what we do and sometimes because of what we do.
Somehow the challenges of life seem manageable when there is a focus. No matter how unusual that may seem, it is true. I choose to make every day one in which I move forward.
Ultimately The Victoria Good News Choir is a choir growing into its mission of 'community'.
We are female and male singers who come from many walks of life. We are a community in that we agree on some things.
We sing, work and play together. We invest in our communities through monthly outreach at area hospitals, retirement and care facilities. We tithe. We continue to make ourselves available to schools of all kinds for fundraising events.
We are an ever changing entity that attempts to respond to each other, the adventure of remaining relevant, alive, engaged the world in which each of us lives.
We are The Victoria Good News Choir .
My belief is that your voice has a right to be heard.
Come. Join us.

See you soon,
